The new 521,000-square-foot hospital building creates an architectural dialogue between the operational efficiency of a rectangular grid, where all clinical services stack logically so doctors and staff can deliver effective healthcare, and the more playful, organic, often whimsical shapes and forms that exist in nature—and in a child’s imagination. This juxtaposition of rectilinear and organic form, reason and emotion, grown-up and child-like, was the genesis of the building design
